*Recover Suspected Human Parts at Shrine as Manhunt Intensifies for Prime Suspect and Accomplices
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, in connection with the horrific murder and mutilation of a pregnant nurse whose dismembered body was discovered in a soakaway pit in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.
The arrest, made on July 25, 2025, was facilitated through intelligence and support from members of the Umueri village and the wider Ogbunike community. Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect, Nwafor, is the girlfriend of the prime suspect, one Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who is currently at large.
According to the police, the suspect confessed during interrogation that she was called in by her boyfriend to clean up blood stains after the victim had been murdered. She further admitted to knowledge of the sale of human body parts to local native doctors, suggesting a wider network of ritual activity. The victim, a qualified nurse, was reportedly lured to the suspect’s residence under the guise of providing medical assistance.
Following the confession, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided a shrine in the early hours of July 29, 2025, belonging to one Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile of Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike. During the operation, police recovered suspected human parts wrapped in nylon bags.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned the gruesome incident, describing it as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He assured the public that a full-scale manhunt has been launched for the prime suspect and all collaborators, including buyers of the human parts.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public with useful information to assist the police in their investigation, assuring that all informants will be granted full confidentiality and protection.
