Top security chiefs in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have come together to reassess their approach to tackling crime and enhancing public safety, amid growing concerns over security in the nation’s capital.
At a meeting in Abuja, the commanders, alongside the Director of Security for the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), reviewed the impact of Operation Sweep, a coordinated multi-agency effort designed to bolster intelligence sharing, improve enforcement, and ensure a safer environment for residents across the FCT.
The closed-door session, held in Abuja, brought together leaders of various security agencies in the FCT to assess field intelligence, identify operational challenges, and design proactive strategies aimed at curbing crime and maintaining law and order in the territory.
Launched as a coordinated effort to respond to emerging security threats and improve collaboration among law enforcement bodies, Operation Sweep has been central to joint patrols, intelligence-sharing, and rapid response to incidents across Abuja’s urban and rural districts.
In a statement signed by Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, the meeting was described as “crucial for reviewing tactical approaches and reinforcing inter-agency synergy for enhanced safety.”
“The aim is simple, to stay awake so that residents can enjoy their sleep, as the operation intensified night patrols and surveillance”, the statement said.
According to the statement, participants at the meeting also deliberated on recent field reports submitted by operatives on the ground, using the insights to refine deployment patterns, strengthen response times, and ensure that intelligence gathered translates into effective preventive action.
The security heads reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that all residents of the FCT feel safe and secure in their homes, workplaces, and on the roads.
