The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an immediate clampdown on all unlawful gatherings across the state, particularly in student-populated areas, as part of proactive measures to avert cult-related violence.

This directive follows intelligence reports and community alerts indicating that members of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa may attempt to carry out cult initiation rites and reprisals on July 7, 2025 actions that could threaten public safety and lead to unrest.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command has stepped up security operations through the deployment of the School Protection Squad (SPS).

Operatives have been directed to take offensive measures in identified hotspots, while covert surveillance has been activated across motor parks, tricycle points, and other vulnerable areas.

CP Orutugu has also warned hoteliers, lounge operators, and studio apartment managers against hosting any cult-related gatherings, noting that any establishment found culpable will face appropriate sanctions.

The School Protection Squad, an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is designed to safeguard schools, students, and educational facilities from cultism and other threats.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to nearby police authorities. Contact details of Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers have been made available for public access.
