The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the mandatory minimum Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The enforcement exercise took effect from February 1, 2025, across the FCT.

In a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, vehicle owners were reminded that possessing a valid Third-Party Insurance policy is a legal requirement for operating on public roads. Motorists without any form of insurance have been advised to regularize their status immediately to avoid penalties.

“Third-Party Insurance is a compulsory policy designed to protect road users from financial liabilities resulting from accidents. It covers damages to other people’s vehicles, property, or bodily injuries caused by an insured vehicle. The policy ensures that accident victims receive compensation, reducing the financial burden on vehicle owners.”

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, psc, has directed officers conducting the enforcement to be professional, courteous, and firm while discharging their duties.

He also warned that harassment or extortion of motorists will not be tolerated.

Residents of the FCT are urged to comply with the directive, as the enforcement is part of broader efforts to enhance road safety and protect all road users.
