The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa at the weekend declared closed the first ever Abuja National Skating Competition.
The CDS observed that the event was ” agog with thrilling skating skills and showcase of talents”.
The competition which was aimed at fostering peace and unity amongst Nigerian children, youths and to increase the popularity of the sport was competed in three categories; Half marathon Race, Slalom display and aggressive Ramp jump. General Musa further maintained that the competition is to discourage crimes in our society.
The CDS also described the event as a ” Giant leap and indicative milestone of the tremendous progress the Skating Federation, while commending the Skating President, for initiating a workable and pragmatic vision for children and youths. He also showered appreciation on all those who contributed towards the success of the event.
The event which took place at the MKO Abiola Stadium with a 42.5 Skating Marthon Race will see the winner representing Nigeria at the World Championship in Greece next year.
