It was a pitiable and baffling sight in Otu- Jeremi, headquarters of Ughelli South Local Government Area where residents used canoes as means of transportation due to the ravaging flood when our correspondent visited the area last weekend.
Some residents of Otu – Jeremi using canoe as a means of transportation on the ever busy tarred Otu – Jeremi / Okwagbe Road flooded with water as at the time of filing this report last weekend
The affected area was the ever busy tarred road of Otu – Jeremi / Okwagbe that was completely submerged by flood at the time of filing this report.
The said road is the only access to the palace of the Okobaro (traditional ruler) of Ughievwen Kingdom and the secretariat of Ughelli South Local Government Council.
Our correspondent was charged the sum of one hundred naira for canoe transportation for a distance of less than three hundred metres.
It would be recalled that the Personal Assistant to the Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom, Chief Charley Ogbiru had in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent in Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area cried out that the palace of the traditional ruler was inaccessible owing to the ugly situation.
Some of the residents who spoke to our correspondent complained that the flood had an unpleasant smell and that it also itched.
Meanwhile a market survey in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas indicated that the price of a basket of garri has risen to one thousand, five hundred naira from the previous price of one thousand, one hundred naira due to the ravaging flood.
