RRS arrests member of phone-snatching syndicate

Operatives of Rapid Response Squad have arrested one of the two suspects specialised in distracting passers by in Ikeja computer village and stealing their mobile phones and wallets.

  The suspect, Tosin Onadeko, 35, was arrested on Awolowo Way, Ikeja, shortly Onadeko, who along with an accomplice after collecting the phone of their victim and was trying to escape from the scene of the incident.

  Onadeko, who along with an accomplice had collected the victim’s mobile phone after giving him several slaps, did not know an officer of the Decoy Team of RRS was watching him.

  He was arrested by the officer, who retrieved the victim’s phone from him and returned it to the owner.

  The suspect in his confession narrated his role in phone snatching deal around Computer Village, adding that all he does is to run with stolen phones immediately it was passed to him by pickpockets gang in Ikeja.

  “I ran out of luck today because I overstepped my boundaries by going in to steal the boy’s phone directly and I was caught”.

  The father of four pleaded to have indulged in the nefarious act due to hunger and trying to provide for his four children.

  Efforts are in progress to arrest his accomplices who fled the scene, police said.
