Police nab three suspected car thieves, fake dollar racketeers, recover 9 vehicles

The Police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have arrested three suspects in connection with car theft and recovered nine vehicles.

The command also nabbed fake dollar notes racketeers.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Mr Benneth Igweh, made the disclosure during an update briefing on security situations in the city on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Command on February 16, following credible intelligence.

The CP said that the suspects were members of a four-man gang that specialised in inter-state robbery and car snatching.

He said that the suspects were allegedly responsible for series of car snatching and the disappearance of several Hilux vehicles reportedly stolen in the FCT and its environ.

Igweh said: “the suspects come into FCT, perpetrate their heinous acts and take the stolen vehicles to Port-Harcourt to sell.”

 

He said that items recovered from the suspects included master keys and nine vehicles, consisting of five Toyota Hilux, one Toyota Rav 4, one Toyota Corolla, one Toyota Camry and one Lexus SUV jeep.

 

The CP said that the Toyota Rav4 and the five Hilux vehicles had no registeration number while the Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, and the Lexus SUV jeep, had registration numbers -GWA 630 AG, ABJ 307 LK, and KRD 949 FM respectively.

 

Igweh said the suspects had confessed to the crime and currently, assisting the police to arrest other gang members at large.

 

He said that operatives from the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Command, on February 23, also arrested two suspects in possession of 36 packs of fake 100 US Dollar notes.

 

The CP said that the suspects were arrested at Tincan Resort Garden in Jabi area of Abuja following credible intelligence.

 

Igweh said that the suspects had confessed to be members of an eight-man gang which specialises in inter-state sale of fake dollar notes.

 

He said the suspects had also confessed to have sold several of the fake notes to unsuspecting residents of the FCT before they were apprehended.

 

The CP said the suspects were currently assisting the police to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
