Following the rehabilitation project of Warri Refinery, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Local Content Policy and development Mr. Laurence Chukwudi Izegbu has commended Daewoo Engineering for engaging indigenous skilled workers in its quick fix project.

Izegbu gave the commendation during his visit to the facility to inspect the level of DAEWOO compliance in the areas of employment and contract award to indigenes of Delta State on May 4, 2023.

He was hosted by the Head of Human Resources, Mr. Raymond Onose who briefed him on the level of work and participation of indigenous companies in the on-going Quick Fix project.

Okowa’s aide commended Daewoo Engineering for their cooperation thus far and urged them to keep expanding their scope with regards to the engagement of indigenous contractors, especially in the areas of Piping, Sandblasting and Corrosion Control.

According to Mr. Izegbu, “Indigenous companies possess both the capacity and technological know-how required to handle most of the jobs available.”

Mr. Izegbu also appealed to DAEWOO to ensure local contractors are engaged in the areas of Safety Equipment, assuring them of vigilant monitoring from the state in order to ensure quality and standards are not compromised.

The primary task of the Local Content Agency is to ensure that oil-producing and servicing companies operating in Delta State maintain an indigenous workforce of at least 70%, while also utilizing indigenous contractors and local raw materials for their processing.

The Delta State Local Content Agency and DAEWOO Engineering have maintained a cordial working relationship and aims to capitalize on the gains of this synergy.

Izegbu, a UK trained petroleum management expert has demonstrated passion to drive Governor Okowa’s vision in his bid towards empowering Delta youths since assumption of office.
Izegbu strongly believes that the state’s Local Content Policy has the potential to stimulate broad-based economic development, which is necessary to alleviate poverty, achieve prosperity and ensure sustainable economic and social outcomes in Delta.
