In a heartwarming display of kindness and compassion, the wife of the Chief of Air Staff, Dr Rakiya Abubakar, brought joy and smiles to the faces of people with disabilities at the Air Force Officers Wives school for People With d
Disabilities (PWD) today.
The colorful event featured dance with the students, sharing of gifts and fashion parades by the PWD’s.
The event held under the aegis of Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA), an organization dedicated to the service of humanity, to commemorate the International Day for People with special abilities.
Dr. Abubakar noted that their association holds dear the values of compassion, empathy, and inclusivity, which are exemplified in their unwavering commitment to supporting individuals with special abilities.
Speaking further, she said: “As we gather here to commemorate the International Day for People with disabilities, this day serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of inclusivity, accessibility, and equality for all individuals, regardless of their abilities.
“At NAFOWA, we believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every individual, regardless of their differences. It is our firm belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and live fulfilling lives.
“That is why our Association is dedicated to providing support, resources, and education to individuals with special abilities, as well as their families. Central to our efforts is the establishment of a functional specialized school tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals with special needs.
“This school serves as a beacon of hope and empowerment, offering quality education and therapeutic services to help pupil unlock their talents and achieve their dreams.
” Furthermore, we are committed to fostering greater awareness and understanding of special needs within our communities, advocating for inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.
“Through collaborative partnerships and initiatives, we strive to create a more inclusive society where every individual is valued and respected. This was evident in our unwavering commitment, through strategic partnership to provide 150 individuals living with disabilities each with wheel chairs, bags of rice, semovita, beans, groundnut oil and other food items in Kano, last Year.
“This humanitarian initiative was aimed at empowering, as well as, showcasing solidarity with these unique individuals.
“We also acknowledge that there is still much work to be done. We must continue to push for inclusive education, employment opportunities, and healthcare services that cater for the diverse needs of persons with Special abilities.
“We must also recognize the importance of empowering these individuals and provide the much needed support to participate fully in our societies. As we move forward, let us be guided by the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
“Let us work together to create a world that values diversity, promotes equality and ensures that all individuals have the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
