The Nigerian Army has unveiled its new Nigerian Army Vanguard Air Platforms, aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of its aviation wing.

The unveiling ceremony, held in Abuja on Thursday signaled Army’s efforts to strengthen its aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, and mobility.

In his opening remarks, the Coordinator of Nigerian Army Aviation, Major Genera MS Alkali expressed immense pride and gratitude on the breakthrough.

“We are gathered here to celebrate the arrival of the Nigerian Army Vanguard air platforms, a significant milestone in the NA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Army Aviation.

“This development aligned with TA Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) vision “to transform the nigerian army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”, he said.

Reflecting on the journey to this point, Alkali highlighted the rigorous planning and unwavering support from army leadership and international partners.

“These platforms will significantly bolster the NA’s overall operational effectiveness,” Alkali emphasized.

He also recognized the importance of the skilled personnel who will operate and maintain these machines, asserting that their professionalism and dedication are the bedrock of the Army’s success.

In his address, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja celebrated the realization of a long-held dream for Nigerian Army Aviation.

He traced the journey back to 2014 when the former COAS, Lt. General KTJ Minimah (rtd), initiated the establishment of the NA Aviation Coordination Office with a 10-year implementation plan.

Lagbaja lauded the efforts of subsequent COAS leaders, from TY Buratai to Attahiru and Farouk Yahaya, whose tenacity and collective efforts have been instrumental.

Acknowledging the challenges faced, Lagbaja expressed gratitude to the various administrations, particularly Goodluck Jonathan and Mohammadu Buhari, former Presidents for their support.

He extended special thanks to President Bola Tinubu for fulfilling his promise to fund the acquisition of the platforms, thus realizing the Army’s aviation dream.

Recognizing the Army’s position as newcomers in the aviation field, Lagbaja lauded the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, and the Nigerian Police Force for their support and encouragement.

He emphasized the Army’s commitment to learning and enhancing their operational successes through this new venture.

Lagbaja expressed gratitude to the National Assembly, the Ministers of Defence, and all Nigerians for their support.

“The Nigerian Army is poised to serve the nation better, and we shall overcome and provide our people with an enabling environment for economic prosperity,” he assured.
