This state-of-the-art facility, hailed as the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, represents a major advancement in combating the rising wave of digital threats and enhancing cybersecurity.
The NPF-NCCC’s inception traces back to a modest start in a container lab within the Force Criminal Investigation Department, where early efforts were hampered by outdated technology and limited resources.
Inspired by the surge in cyber and cyber-enabled crimes and an increasing number of complaints from INTERPOL about Nigerian threat actors, the vision for a more robust solution took shape.
In a short period, the center has emerged as a global leader in cybercrime investigations, achieving notable successes in collaboration with INTERPOL and other international partners.
It has played a crucial role in the arrest and prosecution of high-profile cybercriminals and the dismantling of sophisticated crime networks.
Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the center boasts a team of top forensic and cybercrime experts, including Certified Ethical Hackers and Computer Forensic Investigators.
It is organized into seven directorates and houses five specialized digital forensic laboratories, providing comprehensive support for cybercrime investigations.
The facility is designed to act as a Cybercrime Fusion Center, offering real-time interventions on cybersecurity threats across public and private sectors. This initiative, supported by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s corporate social responsibility program, is expected to revolutionize policing practices in line with international standards.
President Tinubu’s administration is praised for its commitment to enhancing digital security and providing the resources necessary for the center’s continued success. The NPF-NCCC stands as a testament to the administration’s promises and its dedication to advancing Nigeria’s cybersecurity capabilities.
