Military Seeks modernization of Armed forces, accommodation for personnel, others

The Nigerian Armed Forces has urged the Federal government to modernise the military, improve its funding as well as provide more accommodation for officers and soldiers.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa spoke during the maiden official visit of the Minister of Defence Alhaji Badaru Abubakar and Minister of State for Defence Bello Mattawale to the military high command today.

He lauded the minister for his leadership since assumption of office, pledging loyalty of the AFN to the constitution and the president.

According to him, “You hit the ground running since you came in. We know there have been series of crises in the sub-region where we have series of coups. But we pledge our loyalty to the constitution and the president.

We thank you our minister for your commitment, we thank you for visiting us. AFN is fully behind the president, we are loyal to the constitution”

He urged the federal government to take as priority need of the military issues of modernization of the armed forces, treatment of wounded soldiers, foreign trainings, improved funding, issues of training and accommodation for personnel and officers.

He noted that over 140,000 terrorists have so far surrendered to the superior firepower of the AFN.

Responding, the minister, Alhaji Badaru said: “You are doing fantastically well. The president is aware of your hitting of these criminals. We commend you for your effort towards boosting the morale of troops. All your requests will surely be attended to by the president. I will remind him.”
