Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State has appointed Kanu Nwankwo as his Senior Special Assistant on Sports.
This was contained in a statement on Thursday by Aic Akwarandu, special assistant to the governor on new media.
“In this new role, the Nigeria World Cup skipper will assist the Ihedioha administration on rebuilding the sports sector in Imo State”, it said.
Kanu is a holder of the OON national title.
Born 1 August 1976, Papilo, as fondly called, founded the Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF) which has saved hundreds of lives.
Kanu played for Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Dutch side Ajax, Inter Milan of Italy, and English clubs Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth.
He won a UEFA Champions League medal, a UEFA Cup medal, three FA Cup Winners Medals and two African Player of the Year awards amongst others.
