In line with her administration’s mandate of enhanced border security, the
Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, is set to deploy e-border solutions in Kebbi State to enhance migration management and national security.
The CG had Wednesday, May 8, 2024, embarked on a two-day working
visit to Kebbi State for an on-the-spot assessment of the nation’s borders
and to also strengthen collaboration with the stakeholders present on
enhanced border security.
According to spokesman of the service, DCI Kenneth Udo, the CGI paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris to synergize with the State Government on border security and the need for increased border surveillance to maintain Nigeria’s
territorial integrity.
He said: “During the engagement, the Comptroller General laid emphasis on the
Service being the lead agency in border security and migration management.
The Service will continue to deploy the use of advanced technology to
safeguard our borders.
“She further stressed that the e-border solutions
already being deployed will help checkmate trans-border crimes and other
related offences.
“The Governor in his response, pledged vehicles to enhance operational
efficiency and stated that this partnership underscores the shared
commitment to promoting national security and sustainable migration
governance.
“In addition, the Governor promised to provide further assistance as maybe required to enhance the operational efficiency of the Regional Migration Academy, Tugga.
“As a tangible demonstration of collaboration, the Comptroller General also met with the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman, Kebbi State Council of Chiefs;
Major General Dr Muhammad Ilyasu Bashar as well as the border community leader from Kamba Community and stakeholders as their proximity to border crossings and first-hand knowledge of local dynamics makes them invaluable assets in identifying and addressing security threats.
“Her assessment tour, cuts across visits to the State Command in Birnin
Kebbi, FOB located at Kyengyakwai, Kamba Control Post, Dole kaina (Land)
and Lolo (Marine) Control Posts where the e-border technology is being
situated, built and installed to provide real-time surveillance on the nation’s
border.
“During the brief with relevant security agencies at the border post, the
Comptroller General stated that the intelligence gathered from e-border
solutions would be swiftly shared among the security agencies to further
enhance collaborations.
“She also highlighted the need to be sensitive in carrying out our duties as immigration officers whom have been trained and briefed on the need to be extra vigilant in manning our borders in order to forestall any likelihood of banditry attacks and insurgency.”
