In a major sting operation on September 11, 2024, a combined team of Department of State Services, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other security agencies successfully repelled an attack by Boko Haram terrorists and bandits in Bassa-Kukoki village, located in the Allawa district of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.
Acting on intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS), the security forces launched a swift counter-offensive, resulting in significant casualties among the insurgents.
Unfortunately, three residents of the community lost their lives during the attack by the fleeing terrorists. No security personnel were harmed in the operation.
In a separate incident, operatives of the DSS in Delta State intercepted a large crude oil theft operation on September 7, 2024.
A very reliable intelligence sources disclosed that a wooden barge carrying approximately 37,000 barrels of crude oil was seized, and five suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal operation.
The suspects are currently being investigated and profiled for further prosecution.
Additionally, the source said on September 9, 2024, a high-ranking commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a proscribed group, was apprehended by a joint team of the DSS and military forces in Ebonyi State.
The arrest followed intelligence reports linking the suspect to the recruitment of mercenaries and planning of future attacks.
Security forces also recovered 600 rounds of 5.56mm caliber ammunition during the operation.
These recent successes highlighted the continued efforts of Nigerian security forces to combat terrorism, oil theft, and other forms of economic sabotage across the country.
