To boost officers morale and motivate them towards better security of Nigeria’s maritime domain, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo has commissioned blocks of flats in Gudu area of Abuja for accommodation of officers and their families.

The CNS also inaugurated several blocks of flats for Ratings and families at Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of Abuja same day.

The naval boss also launched the newly built Naval Unit Abuja Special Forces Holding Bay at Asokoro, Abuja as well as the naval parade ground and Pavillion.

Speaking at the event, Vice Admiral Gambo said: “Today, we gather here to celebrate a milestone in the history of the Nigerian Navy as we just commissioned series of crucial projects that will enhance our performance and operational capabilities as a navy.

“These projects include the newly renovated and remodeled accommodation facilities at Ushafa and Gudu as well as the Administration Building, Parade Ground and Special Forces Holding Bay at Naval Unit Abuja. It is therefore with immense pleasure and gratitude to Almighty God that I address you on this auspicious occasion.

“The commissioning of the newly renovated Naval Ratings’ accommodation at NDC Quarters Ushafa and the Naval Officers’ Quarters Gudu showcased our commitment to the welfare of our personnel. Barracks are not just buildings; they are the homes and sanctuaries where our officers and ratings find solace and support from their families.

“By investing in the development of NN barracks and other infrastructure, we create an environment that enhances their morale, team spirit and a sense of belonging. Our personnel deserve nothing short of the best, and these new infrastructure demonstrate our commitment to their comfort and well-being.

“It is also in this vein that we prioritized the development of modern living spaces for rest and recreation of our Special Forces personnel. The commissioning of the R Adm AO Suleiman Special Forces Holding Bay Navy Town Abuja, named after the pioneer Commander of the NN SBS who is here with us, signifies our commitment to the personnel’s welfare and acknowledgement of the vital role they play in our Naval and joint operations.

“A well-maintained Parade Ground is not only a space of military tradition but also a symbol of discipline, precision, and unity. It is on this hallowed ground that our naval personnel are mustered to demonstrate their skills, rehearse their drills, and express their readiness to protect our nation’s interests.

“The commissioning of a new parade ground emphasizes our dedication to upholding the highest standards of military professionalism and ensuring that NN personnel have the necessary infrastructure to train and perform at their best.

“Likewise, the Administrative building of any military formation serves as a hub where vital administrative and operational tasks are planned, enabling smooth coordination, effective communication, and streamlined decision-making.

“The commissioning of a modern administrative building for NUA, therefore signifies our commitment to operational effectiveness, providing own personnel with the necessary resources and facilities required for efficient administrative responsibilities.

“Distinguished invited guests, these projects we have just outlined are not merely brick and mortar; they are the embodiment of our responsibility to the personnel, the NN, and our nation at large. They represent our unwavering dedication to providing naval personnel with the necessary infrastructure and resources to perform their duties and responsibilities optimally.

“Furthermore, they reflect the collective efforts of our naval personnel, engineers, and professionals who have worked tirelessly to bring these projects to realization. I therefore extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to all those who have contributed to the successful completion of these endeavours.

“I must also commend the officers and ratings for your devotion, professionalism, and sacrifice. You have always shown resilience in safeguarding our nation’s waters and protecting our national interests. Your dedication to duty is truly commendable.

“As we have commissioned these projects today, let us bear in mind, the responsibilities that lie ahead. Let us rededicate ourselves to the defence and security of our dear nation. It is hoped that these projects will further our course towards building a stronger and more capable NN. Therefore, let us continue to work together, protect our nation’s interests, and uphold the honour and integrity of the NN.”
