The Nigeria Police have launched a new initiative to enhance security measures in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in response to growing concerns about safety in schools.

This move comes amid increasing fears of potential threats to educational institutions, prompting authorities to prioritize the safety of students, teachers, and school facilities.

At the Nigeria Police Strategic Forum on School Security, held on Tuesday in Abuja, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Edeh Ayuba commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for his commitment to the safety of lives and property.

The forum, aims to strengthen partnerships between the police, security agencies, and stakeholders to enhance school security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The event marked a significant step in the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative, which includes the establishment of the Schools Protection Squad (SPS) across Nigeria and the FCT.

This initiative seeks to create a secure learning environment by training State Coordinators and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and involving critical stakeholders such as community leaders, youth organizations, and civil society groups.

Epkeji highlighted the importance of community involvement in safeguarding schools and reducing the number of out-of-school children.

He called for continued support and cooperation from all stakeholders to effectively prevent attacks on schools and ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students.

The two-day programme is designed to foster collaboration and resilience among communities to protect educational institutions across the nation.
