The Delta State Health Monitoring Office has refuted report of eight doctors infected with the Coronavirus with six feared dead at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba circulating online.
The Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko while reacting swiftly to the report, said the information is false and fabricated by purveyors of bad news cum Google rank seeking online news media.
Nwoko reiterated that no doctor has been recorded to have contracted the deadly COVID-19 as well as no record of deaths at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Asaba.
He said Delta State Government regards the health of its citizens seriously and offer care in line with global best practices, adding that the Asaba FMC is safe and always ready to offer health care services 24/7.
According to him, doctors and healthcare workers who administer the COVID-19 treatment and man the isolation facilities across the State are well kitted in line with the COVID-19 safety protocols for healthcare personnel as authorized by Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
He implored all residents of the State to be safety conscious by maintaining social distancing, wear face mask in public and avoid any crowded area, adding that if any of them is having symptoms of COVID-19 or observe same on persons around them, should kindly contact the State COVID-19 hotlines, the health monitoring office or the nearest healthcare facility.
He, however, warned purveyors of misinformation as well as such misleading news to desist from it as the state government will not tolerated such further.
Nwoko added that the state government would take drastic action on whosever concocts and circulates fake news aimed at causing public fear for mischievous purpose.
