Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area has gotten National and West Africa accreditation for surgery and other courses.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of a meeting with the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, top officials of the teaching hospital and the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA.
The Commissioner remarked that the hospital was working on getting accreditation for other departments like Internal medicine, Radiology, Community medicine among others.
The Commissioner said: “The leadership of Hospital Management and that of Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, MDCAN, DELSUTH actually came to appreciate the Governor for the works he has done so far in the Hospital.
“You know that a month ago, the Governor approved purchase of CT-scan for the hospital; though they requested for more equipment to make the place habitable for staff and patients.
“Governor Oborevwori has also agreed to do more in terms of the Eco-cardiography and even the MRI. He has also assured to make those things available within the quickest possible time.
“Before now, the accreditation for the various departments in the hospital was basically reliant on the state government. But currently, the internally generated revenue for the hospital has increased.
“Two weeks ago, the hospital got accreditation for National and West Africa for Surgery Department and in the nearest possible time, they will get accreditation for some other departments in the hospital.
“Currently they are working on the Radiology department, the Dental department, Internal Medicine and some other ones.”
In their remarks, Acting CMD of the Hospital, Dr. Awunor Nyemike, Acting MDCAN Chairman, DELSUTH Oghara, Prof. Jude Uchendu and State Chairman Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Israel Adaigho, commended Governor Oborevwori for his disposition to improve the fortunes of the hospital.
