The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, is in the United States to share his vision for the country with young Nigerians in the diaspora, especially those in the two North American countries.

Atiku, who was vice president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, arrived in the US capital, Washington, DC, on Thursday on a working visit.

The visit will afford the presidential candidate the opportunity for high-level engagements aimed at setting the pace for building “an economically stronger and more secure Nigeria,” according to a news release issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe.

According to the statement, Atiku and his delegation will be in the US for a week-long engagement that will see him not only share his vision for Nigeria with young Nigerian professionals in the US and Canada but also with the US business community.

The delegation of the former Nigerian vice president comprises of senior members of the PDP presidential campaign council, personal aides, and other party members.

Those in the official delegation include the director-general of the former ruling party’s presidential campaign council and current governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal; former president of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki; one-time governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha; and the current minority leader of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, among others.
