Army to review code of conduct for election operations

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has vowed that his men would remain apolitical during the 2023 election.  Yahaya also noted that the Nigerian army will review the Rules of Engagement (RoE) and Code of Conduct for Operation SAFE CONDUCT; an operation conducted to provide security in support of the police in election security architecture of the nation.

The COAS made this disclosure today, while declaring open, the Chief of Army Staff Second Quarter Conference 2022 at the Army Headquarters, Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.

The COAS disclosed that the review became necessary in order to ensure an enabling and secure environment to promote peaceful electoral processes.

General Yahaya noted that the army will continue to enhance its Civil-Military relations efforts and provide the necessary support in aid of the civil authority in line with its constitutional mandate. He charged personnel to remain apolitical while carrying out their constitutional role.

The COAS used the medium to restate NA’s determination to sustain the tempo of operations against all forms of criminality, in collaboration with other sister services and security agencies.

The COAS commended the level of cooperation and professionalism amongst security agencies, which he pointed out has translated into operational successes across various theatres of operations nationwide.

 

Gen Yahaya restated his resolve to continue to devote premium attention to training of personnel, stressing that it remains the best form of welfare for troops and a fundamental requirement for successful operations.

The Army Chief noted that the conference provides a platform to review all NA operations and develop strategies to consolidate on the achievements so far recorded.
