The Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Taoreed Lagbaja has inaugurated several projects aimed at boosting welfare of officers and men of Guards Brigade in WU Bassey and Mambilla Barracks.
The projects included the newly constructed 20 blocks of flats officersquarters located in Wu Bassey Barrack as well as the Guards Brigade remodelled and ultra-modern state-of-the-arts hospital and Garrison duty room. Also commissioned by the COAS was the residential accommodation for the Brigade Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), initiated and sponsored by the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya.
In his remark, the COAS said he was particularly elated seeing the array of projects carried out by the Commander Guards Brigade and his team and considering the fact that it is his first set of projects commissioned on assumption of office as the 23rd COAS in the annals of the Nigerian Army.
The COAS noted that the projects are in line with his command philosophy which is hinged on leadership, operational effectiveness and sound administration, stressing that the Nigerian Army under his leadership will witness more infrastructural development which will enhance troops welfare across the nation.
He commended the commander Guards Brigade and his team for his positive disposition and commitment to the welfare of the troops adding that the projects would no doubt go a long way to provide the needed essentials for the troops, their families and the immediate community.
The Army Chief assured that, the Nigerian Army under his stewardship will witness more construction of similar projects across the nation emphasizing the need for troops to cultivate good maintenance culture to ensure it stands the taste of time.
The high point of the event was the Commissioning of the projects by the COAS at Wu Bassey and Mambilla Barracks, and presentation of Souvenir by the Commander Guards Brigade to the Chief of Army Staff.
The event was also witnessed by key Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, members of Nigeria Army officers wives (NAOWA) as well as officers and personnel of Guards Briga
